BMW M8 Gran Coupe launched – Luxury is complete

Compared to the 7 Series luxury car, which after the new upgrade looks so flashy and massive it may exceed some potential customers, the 8 Series in the four-door edition may be a good alternative.

It's about the same size, but has a slimmer, slimmer, and slimmer silhouette, and – not least – the grille, and usually the front, is more sporty and less flashy.

With the inauguration of the M8 Gran Coupe, the third and newest M model of the new BMW 8 Series is already in place. With four doors, longer wheelbase and a larger luggage compartment, the top-of-the-line luxury and sporty model range is complete.

– The new BMW M8 Gran Coupe is the car for those who want a good dose of extravagance and driving pleasure, every day and on longer trips, says Marius Tegneby, communications director of BMW Group Norway.

The BMW M8 Coupe and BMW M8 Convertible have already been introduced to the market. Number three, the car we see here, will be shown to the public for the first time at the Los Angeles car show in November, before it hits stores from April 2020.

Real Benefits M

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is powered by the 4.4-liter TwinPower V8 engine we first tested on the new M5. It also produces 600 horsepower with a torque of 750 Nm. Thus, 0-100 km / h takes no more than 3.3 seconds.

If you choose the sharpest variant, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition, the power is increased to 625 hp while the race is done in quick 3.2 seconds. The maximum speed for both cars is 250 km / h, but can be adjusted up to 305 km / h with the option «M Driver Package"

Possibility of rear wheel drive

Forces find their way to the track through an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and four-wheel drive M xDrive. This innovative four-wheel drive system, which we have experienced while driving the new generation BMW M5 on the track, allows forces to be distributed between axles in a new way.

For example, to the delight of all motor sport purists, it is also possible to send all forces to the rear wheels, and the driver can configure different brake settings through different steering programs. The sound of the two pairs of exhaust pipes can be adjusted in the driver's seat.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition also features M Sport exhaust systems as standard. It gives an extra cool sound.

Exclusive design

What distinguishes the M version of the 8 Gran Coupe compared to the other 8 Series models are several of the peculiarities found in the BMW M8 Coupe and BMW M8 Convertible; Large air intakes and marked spoilers and diffusers are some of the features.

Like the BMW M8 Coupe, the roof of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe is made of carbon-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The Competition variant stands out even more with the high-gloss black optics.

The interior also received very distinct details. A separate M steering wheel with red gear shifters, new shift lever and exclusive M-sport seats with M seat belts are some of the things that can be mentioned. Tailored in leather and BMW colors exclusive It is obviously also an opportunity for those who want something more personalized.

Not a true five seater

With two distinct rear seats, the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe is what you can call four seats plus one. This is because the exterior rear seats have the same design as the sports seats at the front. With a solid side support and integrated headrests, BMW's idea is also to offer a sense of sporting luxury in the rear seats.

The luggage room volume is 440 liters – not so impressive for such a large luxury sedan, but part of the price to pay for the dynamic lines.

– Together with the recently unveiled BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M, the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe is proof that the BMW model offensive occurs in every segment, even among the most sporting and luxurious models featuring the M. logo If more will come? May well, concludes Tegneby.
