A young boy is fighting for his life after a crash during a motocross event south of Pukekohe on Sunday afternoon.
Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman told Stuff the motorcycle accident happened in Mercer, home of the Kawasaki Sand Track on Kimikimi Rd.
The crash was reported about 3.45pm, towards the end of the final round of a winter series hosted by the Pukekohe Motorcycle Club.
The young boy had to undergo rapid sequence intubation (RSI), an emergency technique where a tube is forced down the throat of a patient with life-threatening injuries at imminent risk of respiratory failure.

He was flown to Starship Hospital in a critical condition, the spokesman said.
The circumstances of the crash remain unclear.
The Pukekohe Motorcycle Club did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
