A white Nissan could be seen colliding with the fence of the rugby field at Wellington College.
The Mount Victoria tunnel in Wellington is blocked after a serious car accident that left two people injured.
Wellington Free Ambulance spokeswoman Sarah Coulthard said one person was in critical condition and the other had moderate injuries after the accident.
The two were transported to Wellington Hospital, Coulthard said.
The accident occurred just after 6 am outside the Mount Victoria Tunnel, police said.

The tunnel would be closed while the accident was cleared.
The tunnel, on State Highway 1, is a vital link between the city center to the west and the eastern suburbs and Wellington International Airport.
Fire and emergency shifts manager Jill Webley said two fire trucks left the scene after emergency workers helped release a person from the vehicle that was being held.
A white Nissan could be seen colliding with the fence of the rugby field at Wellington College, with a heavily broken windshield, and the top half of the car had been cut by Fire & Emergency workers. A black jacket could be seen on the car's seats.
A black SUV was also involved in the accident. It could be seen parked at random, near the exit of Wellington College, with the front completely crumpled.
The New Zealand Transportation Agency said those traveling to Newtown or Harbor Bays should expect delays and the tunnel trail is also closed for pedestrians and cyclists.
Police said the tunnel could be closed for hours.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the scene.
