The 82-year-old man, Shuyou Lin, disappeared in Wellington

Wellington police are searching the central city for an 82-year-old man who has been missing since Wednesday afternoon.

Shuyou Lin was last seen at his home address at The Terrace around 3 pm. At the time, he was wearing a gray jacket and pants.

He was described as slightly built, thin and about 160cm tall, with gray hair. He was possibly wearing strange shoes, a slipper, and running shoes.

Lin, who does not speak English, is known for walking to the Botanic Gardens on Glenmore Street.

He was reported missing at 7:00 pm by a family member.

Several police, search and rescue and police dog teams are currently investigating the area and police officers have asked members of the public to keep an eye on Lin and inform the police of any appearance.

Members of the public can call 111 if they believe they have seen Lin, as there is concern for their safety.
