Refugees stranded at resettlement center in Auckland because of lack of housing


New Zealand is preparing to raise its refugee quota to 1,500 next year. But the Herald figures show that it is already struggling to house the existing quota of 1000 because of the growing demand for real estate and rental properties.

New refugees in New Zealand are getting stuck at the South Auckland resettlement center because there are no houses for them to follow.

Almost half of the 1,000 refugees who arrived last year remained in the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Center beyond the six-week introductory program.
