Police officer accused of brutally assaulting another officer

A male police officer was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting another policeman.

The 28-year-old boy appeared in Auckland District Court on Friday afternoon on charges of assault and rape.

His arrest and indictment came after police investigated a complaint made by another police officer.

The complaint concerns two incidents that allegedly occurred in the early hours of 5 February.

Detective Superintendent Dave Lynch said the officer had been fired.

A separate employment investigation would follow in due course, he said.

"As the matter is in the courts, we are in no position to comment further."
