The tribute function gets a separate tab and is added to profiles that have a memorial status. At the same time, the original timeline of the deceased remains intact, explains Facebook coo Sheryl Sandberg.
Facebook users can name someone who can take care of their Facebook profile after their death. This contact now can also determine who can place and see the taxes. The latter can help relatives who, for example, are not yet ready to be confronted with messages about the deceased.
Facebook also wants to prevent users from having painful memories in other ways. For example, if a deceased person's account does not yet have commemorative status, Facebook now ensures that that person does not appear between birthday reminders or can be invited to events.
