The number of people seeking asylum in the Netherlands fell again. The Central Bureau of Statistics reports this based on new numbers from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
5405 asylum seekers came to the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2019. There was less than the previous quarter but more than in the first quarter of 2018.
The number of accompanying family members also fell. With 840 people, this is the smallest number in five years.
In the last quarter of 2016, one year after the refugee crisis, almost 6,000 relatives were reunited with asylum seekers already living in the Netherlands.
Most asylum seekers and followers come from Syria as well as last year. The growth in the number of asylum seekers from Nigeria and Iran is impressive.
