PETALING JAYA: The government gave Hindu officials the option of taking a day of unregistered leave on Wednesday (Nov. 7), the day after Deepavali.
This will be an additional holiday for the Deepavali public holiday on Tuesday (November 6).
Datuk Seri Borhan Dolah, director general of the Department of Public Service, said in a circular dated November 5 that the option to take unregistered leave would take effect in 2018.
The holiday is given with the aim of giving public officials more space to celebrate the festival with their relatives.
He said that this applies to all civil servants, statutory officials (federal and state) and officials who work for local authorities, although their application is subject to the decision of each authority.
