Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases, the first signs that some patients may not even know. However, it is precisely the rapid diagnosis of the disease that is very important and can help prevent complications.
Celebrating World Diabetes Day, professionals are more reminiscent of helping the disease recognize this disease, and notes, but the best way to make sure is to measure your blood sugar and consult your doctor.
Elva Ramaškienė, a pharmacist at Eurovision, points out that early diagnosis is important for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as the consequences of delay are equally painful in both cases. It is true that type I diabetes is much more pronounced and more recognizable, and here is type II – it can quietly tune in for several years.
"The first type of diabetes is diagnosed when human immunity starts killing insulin-producing pancreatic cells." It usually affects young people, around the age of 35-40 years, often diagnosed in children and adolescents. only the reasons are different. The second type of diabetes is usually determined by the human way of life, the disease or its complications. It is more common in the elderly, "says E. Ramaškienė.
According to the pharmacist, the symptoms of the first type of diabetes are quite pronounced and appear quickly. The first five symptoms include high levels of thirst, excessive urination, increased fatigue, weakness and noticeable weight loss. After some time, there is another distinctive sign – the aroma of acetone begins to start in the mouth.
But type II diabetes seems less clear. The symptoms of this diabetes mellitus are very similar, but not as active. And, unlike type 1 diabetes, weight gain in this case generally increases significantly, obesity, being overweight is recorded.
"The earlier the diabetes is diagnosed, the more serious the complications will be and the more serious it will be." A large proportion of people with type 2 diabetes suffer from cardiovascular disease because it is too late for the doctor. the timely observation of degrees, it is still possible to completely restore the body, "- notes E. Ramaškienė.
According to her, complications often affect not only the vascular system, but also the vision, nerves and kidneys, and therefore, with the best suspicion, check and consult the doctors in time.
Checking – for everyone
If it is suspected, it is best to determine the level of blood sugar. This is important for everyone, especially those with family history of illness as well as being overweight and elderly.
"Older people often have problems with liver, pancreas, cardiovascular disease." These diseases promote diabetes mellitus. Another cause of the disease is low activity, when sugar begins to accumulate in the body and breaks down so quickly, "says the pharmacist.
E. Ramaškienė stresses that diabetes can end with a very serious complication of the flu. If the flu symptoms are not clear and do not have the flu, it is worth finding out what causes them.
Every year in November, various health institutions and organizations are traditionally more active in inviting them to release their blood and see their blood sugar level.
Last year, this campaign took place in four large Lithuanian cities, on the initiative of the "Eurovista" network of drug addicts and people joining people with diabetes.
The results showed that among nearly 1,000 people randomized, more than a dozen high-risk patients had to be referred immediately to family doctors for counseling.
Blood sugar can be checked free of charge this year from 17 to 18 November at the largest pharmacies in the Akropolis supermarkets in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and Šiauliai.
E. Ramaškienė points out that there is no need for special training, but it is advisable not to eat before checking, as certain foodstuffs can affect blood glucose levels.
