America records the highest incidence of measles in a quarter of a century – archiving
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 78 new cases of measles last week, bringing the number of cases recorded since early 2019 to 704, the highest number in a quarter of a century.
Twenty-two states have reported cases of highly pathogenic disease, which sometimes leads to death.
The cases were concentrated in New York, where officials said more than 390 cases had been registered since October.
Officials said the current outbreak outreach increased when 82 people were transported in 2018 and more than 40 in 2019 to the United States from other countries, especially Ukraine, Israel and the Philippines, and soon spread the disease among children who were not vaccinated.
