Benito Mussolini's granddaughter criticized Jim Carrey after he tweeted a drawing of the hanging of Italian war fascist and his mistress, Claretta Petacci.

Alessandra Mussolini, Italian politics, criticized the Dumb and Dumber star on Twitter on Saturday, showing her a "b *****" for drawing a sketch of her grandfather and his lover hanging upside down on a beam.

Carrey's art is based on the actual deaths of Mussolini and his lover, Petacci, who were captured and executed by communist guerrillas on April 28, 1945.

The couple – along with other key figures of the Italian fascist leadership – were traveling through Italy and planning to go to Switzerland before fleeing to Spain.

After death, the bodies of Mussolini, Petacci and other fascists were hung upside down in front of a gas station at Piazzale Loreto in Milan, while a large crowd released their anger.

The Canadian-American actor, whose drawings harshly criticized Trump, expressed his views on fascism by sharing the drawing with the caption: "If you're wondering what fascism is, ask Benito Mussolini and his lover Claretta."

His tweet generated more than 57,000 likes and 15,000 retweets, but was beaten by Mussolini, who responded to Carrey's sketch by writing, "You're a b ***** d."

Ms Mussolini posted a series of angry tweets in response to Carrey, saying that he should draw pictures of America's troubled past.

She also shared a picture of Native Americans standing in front of Mount Rushmore as well as a photo of Rosa Parks, the black civil rights activist who refused to sit on the back of the bus in the segregated south of the 1950s.

She then tweeted a photo of a mushroom cloud, presumably as a criticism of the American use of atomic bombs in Japan during World War II.

Mussolini also retweeted a link to a report on the famous photo taken of Vietnamese villagers, scared and naked, who fled when American planes bombed from above.

However, several Twitter users have pointed out to Mussolini that although Carrey is a Hollywood star, he is originally from Canada.

Mussolini, 56, is a member of the European Parliament of the center-right Forza Italia political party, as well as a former actress and model.
