Your smartphone photos are totally fake – and you love it.


For now, Night Sight is just a mode that appears in dark scenes on Google's Pixel phones. But it's not all: all kinds of handset makers boast of how amazing your photos are, not how realistic they are. The iPhone's "portrait mode" applies blurred blur to the back and identifies facial features to reduce red-eye. Selfies on popular phones in Asia automatically slim the heads, lighten the eyes and soften the skin. And the latest phones use a technique called HDR that merges multiple takes to produce a hyper-toned reality version.
