An apparent arson at a Sinn Féin TD house was convicted.
TD Sligo-Leitrim's car, Martin Kenny, was burned at his home in Aughavas, near Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim, in the early hours of the morning.
Kenny has also received a death threat in recent days after speaking out against a "far-right ideology being sold in this country" about asylum seekers.
TD spoke for the first time after residents of Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, organized protests this week outside an apartment complex to accommodate 130 asylum seekers.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald condemned what she said was a "very deliberate and targeted attack" on Kenny's house around 2:30 am.
“An attack on the home or property of an elected public representative is a deeply serious and sinister development. It represents an attack on the democratic system itself, "said McDonald.
Gardaí is now investigating the incident and has asked anyone with information to come forward.
Separately, Kenny filed a complaint with Gardai last week after receiving a death threat through a text that claimed to be a "traitor" and indicated that he should be "executed."
