Manchester United gym boss Nicky Butt was rescued after being arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman.
The 44-year-old woman was detained by police following reports Tuesday that a woman had been assaulted at an address in Hale, Greater Manchester.
Former midfielder Manchester United and England were released later, awaiting further investigation.

A police spokeswoman for Greater Manchester said: "The police were called around 2 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, stating that a woman had been beaten at a Broadway home in Hale.
"The woman received a small cut in her hand and did not need hospital treatment.
"A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and was rescued pending further investigation.
"Inquiries are in progress and anyone with information should contact the police by reference number 101 1086 of 04/16/19 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
Butt won six Premier League titles in his Old Trafford career and also played in a dramatic 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final.
Manchester were eliminated from the quarter-finals of this year's Champions League on Tuesday night when Barcelona clinched a 4-0 win.
