MacKenzie Bezos receives $ 35 billion in Amazon shares in divorce settlement

MacKenzie Bezos will hold Amazon shares worth more than $ 35 billion after separating from founder and executive director Jeff Bezos in what was considered the biggest divorce settlement of all time.

Bezos's 4% stake in Amazon after the deal is concluded – a quarter of the couple's shareholdings – is likely to make her the world's third richest woman after Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the heir of Léo Oréal, and Alice Walton, the daughter of Sam Walton, founder of Walmart, according to Forbes' estimates of its net worth.

In a statement released on Twitter on Thursday, Bezos said he would hand over all of his interests to the Washington Post and Blue Origin, the Bezos rocket, as well as all control of the remaining stock on Amazon.

"Happy to be giving him all my interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75% of our shares on Amazon," Bezos said in the tweet.

The couple filed for divorce on Thursday, according to a request from Amazon, and hopes the agreement will be confirmed by decree in about 90 days.
