Gardaí seized a firearm during a search in Tallaght, Dublin, today.
Two people were arrested after the search by the National Department of Drugs and Organized Crime of Garda.
Gardaí said the intelligence-led operation was targeting organized crime in the southern area of Sublin.
A 28-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested and are being interrogated at Tallaght Garda Station.
Deputy Commissioner John O'Driscoll of Special Crime Operations said: "Garda Síochána is determined to remove firearms that have the capacity to kill from our streets and to identify those we suspect are willing to use them ".
