BREAK: Gardaí makes arrests on suspicion of murder in Laois


Gardaí in Laois arrested two people on suspicion of murder as part of an intensified search and investigation into the disappearance of a man in Portlaoise earlier this year.

The male and female were arrested on Thursday, June 20, when the search for a spot between Portlaoise and Stradbally was suspended in the historic Rock of Dunamaise.

Gardaí made the arrests as part of an ongoing investigation into the whereabouts of William Delaney (56), who was reported missing by his family in January of this year. He was living at Fieldbrook's property at the time of his disappearance.

The male is detained at Portlaoise Garda station, while Gardaí, connected to the Laois Offaly Division, took the female to the Tullamore Garda station for questioning.

They can be detained for an initial six-hour period with possible extensions if more questions are needed.


Gardaí has ​​isolated the roads around the search area at Rock of Dunamaise since Tuesday to facilitate a comprehensive search for gardaí and soldiers.

William is described as 5 "6, with medium build, black / gray hair and blue eyes. It is not known what Mr. Delaney was wearing when he was last seen.
