For the fourth level of the third phase of the competition, 11 teams were asked to create full-scale representations of their projects using modeling software and short videos explaining their choices. Past stages have focused on architectural renderings and technologies needed to build the components of each design.

Team SEArch + / Apis Cor, based in New York, won the first place with its unique and twisted structure, which is dotted with small holes to allow the entrance of natural light.

Vice-champion Zoperhous suggested that his modular structures could be printed by an autonomous robot; and Mars Incubator, a group of engineers and artists, has shown a modular design that consists of four distinct spaces, including one for growing plants.

The three teams shared a $ 100,000 prize between them.

In the next round, set for early May, the finalists will print full-scale 3D models of their projects while competing for $ 800,000 in cash prizes.

The competition is just the latest development of NASA's mission to send humans back to the moon and eventually to Mars.
