Gearbox gave fans some glimpses at Borderlands 3 earlier this year but now the developer has unveiled the title properly as part of a major gameplay revelation event on May 1st. The one-hour livestream gave us our first good look at the next action shooter in action, as we have more information about their new playable characters / Vault Hunters, weapons, gameplay wrinkles and more.
You can review the above event. We'll also be streaming our own Borderlands 3 gameplay (showing the new Zane character, you can see Amara the Siren below) from there to give you an idea of what to expect. We also had to talk to the Gearbox before the event and test the game for ourselves, where we discovered that you can play solo without problems, which will be good news for some. (The local and online co-op game is also supported, with the option to share loot or not.) Randy Pitchford of Gearbox also noted that Borderlands 3 will not have cash boxes, although there are some micro-transactions. The post-release DLC was also confirmed, but not with specific details.
New gameplay details include the ability to crouch and climb on the edges; we also saw some skill trees and some of the new characters and their skills in action. The Gearbox also showed the new villains of the game, the Calypso twins, and how it (more or less) brings back the Handsome Jack.

The release date for Borderlands 3 is scheduled for September 13 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Watch for more game coverage and check out the video below for a recap of the highlights of what we learned during the game's revelation event. The original story follows.
