Alexander Tolstoy, grandson of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, rested yesterday in the Kardamili cemetery.
The deceased had bought a house in the town of Mani since the 1970s, and in recent years lived for at least 9 months a year in Kardamili. He was born in France 87 years ago and was the son of one of Leo Tolstoi's 14 sons.
According to information from friends and acquaintances, Alexander Tolstoy served in the diplomatic corps of France and was a linguist: as the residents of Kardamyli said, he spoke all the languages of the Balkans and many local dialects (Sarakatsian, Vlach, etc.).
