Exhibition and auction of works of art for the rehabilitation of the preserved building of ELIA

An auction of works by Greek artists is being carried out by the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece on December 1 in support of the restoration of the preserved building of the Hellenic Literary Historical Archive (ELIA). The exhibition will take place on 20-30 November, with about 100 works that the artists gave for this purpose (Eynard Palace, Agios Konstantinos 20 and Menandros).

ELIA's four-story building in Plaka was designated by the Ministry of Culture as a "work of art". It was bought in 1986 and restored in 1990. The contribution of the visual arts to its acquisition was decisive, since part of the cost was covered by two auctions of works offered by artists and collectors. The constant enrichment of archival sources and the increase of researchers who use it every day contributed to the stress of the building and its repairs are necessary both for the proper preservation of the collections and for the safety of workers and researchers.

In the collections of ELIA / MIET are kept archives of historical personalities and writers, photographs and postcards, books, magazines and newspapers, evidence of artistic life, maps, ephemera. The rich remains of two centuries allow the multifaceted understanding and reconstruction of aspects of the history and culture of modern and modern Greece. Access to the ELIA / MIET collections is free and, in the last decades, is one of the main focuses of promoting research in the field of the humanities.

About a hundred works, paintings, engravings, sculptures, drawings, photographs of the following artists were gathered for the auction:
