Repairs on the iPad Pro are tricky: the rigid screen on the tablet can only be slowly and carefully separated from the case, as iFixit demonstrates by disassembling the new 11 "iPad, but the tape cables in the monitor are missing inside, so you you should not accidentally damage them when you open, write down the repair service.
USB port C not soldered to motherboard
A replacement screen allows access to the motherboard and battery: the battery is now reattached with removable tape and easy to repair, explains the repair page. But Apple also uses sticker to attach the battery in the case – making the battery replacement is much more difficult. In addition, the motherboard is still stuck. In contrast to the Lightning port, the new USB-C port of the iPad Pro 2018 is "completely modular" according to the disassembly and can thus be replaced independently of the motherboard in case of a defect.
Apple Pencil 2 ready for more gestures?
By cutting the second generation of the Apple Pencil, iFixit discovered a capacitive sensor that is wrapped inside the pen. This could allow the support of other gestures, since the detection of the exact point of contact would have to be possible. Currently, the new Pencil responds only to a double-tap, for example, to change the tool used in a painting application or to display a palette.
Adhesive strips indicate easy removal of the battery – but this is additionally glued.
On the internal repair scale, iFixit gives the new iPad Pro a 3 out of 10 possible points, which represents one more point than the previous model received – the higher the value, the easier repairs should be. Although Apple continues to rely on a huge amount of adhesive to protect all components of the iPad, the manufacturer seems to be present in the three product lines just released – iPad Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini 2018 – to pay attention to a little better then iFixit.
