ADIS ABEBA, June 21 (Xinhua) – The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on Friday called on African countries to seize the abundant resources in the midst of the uncertainties that global trade faces.

The urgent call was made by Andrew Mould, director of ECA's East African Office, who emphasized the need for Africa to do this for economic development and industrialization.

"At a time when global trade is characterized by a lot of uncertainty and when the rest of the world is becoming more and more inland, it is good for Africa to take advantage of the abundant opportunities available on the continent," Mold said. ECA statement on Friday.

The ECA director also noted that the imminent African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) is a "unique opportunity" that would facilitate intra-African trade in the context of global uncertainties.

"The AfCFTA offers a unique opportunity for countries to market more with each other, freeing the manufacturing potential of the region," he said.
