Square Enix refocused Luminous Productions just eight months after opening the new gaming studio.
Headquartered in Tokyo, Luminous opened its doors in March with the initial aim of creating new triple-A titles and properties along with other "innovative game and entertainment content."
After reviewing the studio's business strategy, however, Square decided that its development efforts would be more focused on high-quality, high-quality triple-A game titles, suggesting that there is no room left for these more innovative experiences.
It is a change of direction that had an immediate financial impact, with Square recording an extraordinary loss of 3.7 billion yen ($ 32.7 million) as a result. Interested parties can check the company's latest financial report here.
