Ethiopia has launched an arrival visa service for all African travelers.
The service, effective as of November 1, 2018, aims to facilitate the visit of Africans to the country that houses the headquarters of the African Union (AU).
It was launched at a ceremony held at the AU Commission's headquarters in Addis Ababa on Thursday.
"It is truly an honor and a special privilege to witness this historic and truly inspiring day," said Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Tewolde Gebremariam.
"Ethiopian Airlines has been bringing Africa to the world for over seven decades. Today, Ethiopian Airlines flies to 60 African destinations and connects the continent to more than 50 major international cities on 5 continents.
"Seen on arrival for African brothers and sisters and, more importantly, seen online, will greatly boost tourism, trade and investment across borders, further deepening African integration," he said.
Mr. Tewolde noted that the Ethiopian airline group commanded the lion's share of the intra-African network.
"Thanks to their unwavering commitments and efforts to bridge the air connectivity gap in African skies, today the Ethiopian serves 59 cities across the continent, commanding most of the intra-African network," Tewolde said.
The Ethiopian Nationality and Immigration Affairs Department, in collaboration with the national airline, launched an e-visa service for all international visitors from Ethiopia in June.
