AU calls for African solutions to ensure an inclusive and consensual transition in Sudan – Xinhua


ADIS ABEBA, April 17 (Xinhua) – African Union Commission President Moussa Faki Mahamat on Wednesday underscored the AU's determination to ensure a consensual and inclusive transition in Sudan through "African solutions to African problems" .

The AU official made the remarks after his meeting with a Sudanese delegation led by Lieutenant General Jalal Alsheikh Altayeb, a member of the Sudanese Military Transition Council on Tuesday, AU spokesman Ebba Kalondo.

"The President reiterated the African Union's commitment to work with all Sudan's stakeholders for a consensual and inclusive transition that fulfills people's aspirations and ensures the stability of the country," said Kalondo.

"As part of continental solidarity and the search for African solutions to African problems, the African Union Commission will continue to closely monitor the situation and interact with all Sudanese stakeholders, in order to help them overcome the challenges they face by your country. ", the spokesman added.

The AU Peace and Security Council, at its meeting on Monday, reiterated the "complete rejection of unconstitutional changes of government" of the continental continent in Africa, based on previous statements by the AU.

The council also recognized "the legitimate aspirations of the Sudanese people to open up the political space in order to democratically design and choose institutions that are representative and respectful of freedom and human rights."
