Central Bohemia – The disease has grown, but the flu can not. Thus, it is possible to summarize the findings of the Central Bohemian hygienists resulting from the evaluation of the reports of doctors and pediatricians on the occurrence of acute respiratory infections and influenza among their patients in the 46th week of the calendar.
For cases that could be influenza due to the clinical picture of the disease, hygienists recorded a third increase over the previous week – an increase of 33.3%. This type of disease in the Central Bohemian region currently represents eight patients per 100,000 inhabitants. However, the actual flu does not work, says Lilian Ruml, head of the antiepidemic department of Central Bohemian Hygiene. This has been proven by laboratory research. "The influenza virus was negative from the biological sampling performed," Ruml said.
However, these flu-like illnesses are just a drop in the sea of total morbidity; according to the hygienists' calculation, they represent only 0.8% of the total number of acute respiratory infections in the region. In the case of the previous week, there was an increase of 6.9%.
Within the national average, the total number of diseases is 1054 diseases per 100,000 inhabitants. There are, however, significant differences between regions. The highest proportion of patients were recorded in Příbram (where, however, the situation remained practically unchanged compared to the previous week); on the contrary, it is better for Kladensko. "The age group most affected is that of children under five years of age," said Ruml, who is typical of the distribution of respiratory diseases in the population.
