British experts have created a revolutionary drug that could finally relieve people suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The British daily Daily Mail reported. Capsules filled with bacteria break down the swelling by sucking up the hydrogen sulfide from the digestive system, the so-called rotten egg gas.
This is considered one of the main causes of IBS. A significant proportion of the population in the Western world suffers from an unpleasant chronic illness that manifests as abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea or constipation.
However, there is currently no treatment to deal with the causes of the disease. Patients can only treat their symptoms through diet and diarrhea medication or constipation.
The exact cause of IBS is unknown – stress or eating habits are at stake. But many experts believe that bacteria in the gut are a key factor. If the digestive system malfunctions, there is a large amount of hydrogen sulfide and other gases that cause swelling, pain and other symptoms of IBS.
The pills called Blautix aim to balance the intestines. They contain bacteria Hydrogenotrophic Blautiaand this can absorb hydrogen sulfide and reduce its level in the gut. At the same time, it produces acetate, which causes changes in the composition of the intestinal microflora – making it more diverse and more stable.
