Alvaro Echeverri Bustamante, an ophthalmologist at the Sandiego Ophthalmology Clinic, explains some eye care tips.

A person who has a visual problem, whether myopia, farsightedness, presbyopia or astigmatism, should have an appropriate correction with glasses or contact lenses. This is the first step: go to an ophthalmologist and review as you see, because on many occasions there are evils that are incipient but that can be deepened over time if you do not have the correct treatment. So you have to check periodically to determine the progress of the disease.

This is essential to having a comfortable working environment. Although it seems that this point does not interfere with visual health, having a good temperature helps the eyes stay moist. Care must be taken that they are not directly exposed to air streams from fans or air conditioners; In the case of this last appliance, it should be kept in mind that it absorbs a large part of the humidity in the environment to generate cold, which dries the eyes.

The computer should have the same height of the eyes, maybe a little smaller. We recommend a distance that is comfortable and between 45 and 60 centimeters. When the screen is too low it forces the eyes to struggle, so there is more tiredness, not to mention neck pain, a complaint very common among office workers who constantly use laptops. It is advisable to have a better size auxiliary screen.

Although it seems absurd, people working in front of the monitors blink a little, two or three times a minute, when a normal human being does it between 16 and 18 times at the same time. Some of the moisture required by the eye and the oxygenation of the cornea comes from tears, and if the eye does not blink, it dries.

For its part, Ana María Osorno Argotes, a pediatric ophthalmologist from Clofán, said that when the symptoms are persistent and recurrent, one should consult the ophthalmologist who evaluates each case and orders specific treatments that may include lubricating, anti-inflammatory or anti-allergic drops, eyelid cleaning and wearing glasses. rest.

Although there is no scientific consensus, some say that the screens generate radiation that can affect the eyes. One way to protect yourself is to implement the use of glasses even if you have no illness. These glasses should have an anti-reflective filter so that the lights do not tire and also UV filters, this protects the eyes, provides greater comfort and, at the same time, forms a kind of eye protection camera, which helps to maintain moisture

One is to rub the eyes continuously because the cornea is a transparent structure that has fibers intersecting, massaging the eye with such force and repetition that these fibers can be damaged, affecting deeply the entire eye. This can end in a disease known as keratoconus.

You have to look for daylight, this is great for a good performance and rest. If exposed to a very bright source, it can fatigue and, on the other hand, the absence of lighting forces extra effort from the eyes.
