"The economy is growing and controlled inflation"

Finance Minister Felipe LarraĆn addressed the figures on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released this morning by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to INE, the CPI for the month of December registered a monthly variation of -0.1%, accumulating 2.6% in 2018.

In this regard, Minister Larrain said that "I am happy for many reasons, I am happy because this is a combination, it is a virtuous circle of a growing economy with controlled inflation," according to Emol.

In the same vein, he added, "I want to emphasize that there are very few countries in the world that have this combination of inflation contained and that we are also on the way to a growth of 4% in the year."

On the other hand, the Secretary of State stressed that as a result of these figures "prices fall, the UF will fall and I remember that there are millions of Chileans who have UF credits and who will see the value of their credit fall during the next month".

It should be noted that, according to the information provided by INE, in December six of the twelve divisions that make up the CPI basket had negative impacts on the monthly variation of the index, five contributed with positive effects and one registered no incidence.
