He was the newest runner-up to the 1962 World Cup in Chile. Josef Adamec of the national team of Czechoslovakia died at the age of 76 in a hospital in the city of Tirnavia.

Adamec was the starter of the three Group 3 games that took place at the Sausalito Stadium in ViƱa del Mar before the Spanish, Brazilian and Mexican teams. He was then a substitute in the following games against Hungary (fourth), Yugoslavia (semis) and the final.

His departure occurred on Monday in Slovakia and the cause of his death was not reported. The existing one scored 14 goals in 44 international matches which he played with Czechoslovakia. Between 1999 and 2002, he was the coach of Slovakia.

The Slovak Football Association has noted that Adamec has scored 170 goals in the Czechoslovak league, obtaining three titles with Spartak Tirnavia and two with Dukla Prague. With Tirnavia came the semis of European Cup of 1969 and fell to Johan Cruyff's Ajax.
