This was confirmed by Aliaga in an interview with Fox Sports, in which he reported that the car "wanted no more" when there were only 40 miles to complete the stretch of a day that they thought they could master.

"We were the first 60 kilometers from the end we are without traction and we were able to leave by a river canyon, and when the last stretch of dunes was the gearbox did not want more, so we abandoned 40 kilometers from the end"commented the copilot in a sad way.
