Shenzhen, Dec 25 (Xinhua) – Chinese technology company Huawei said on Tuesday that the company has sold more than 200 million smartphones so far this year, a new record for the company.
In 2010, shipments of smartphones from Huawei were three million units, according to market research firm IDC.
The company surpassed Apple in the second and third quarters of the year and became the second largest handset maker in the world, according to IDC.
Richard Yu, executive director of Huawei's consumer business group, said the group aims to be a pioneer and leader in the next generation smart phone revolution to continue to create value for consumers and make Huawei a most preferred global brand
The privately held Shenzhen-based company is a world leader in telecommunications solutions and also one of the largest smartphone brands in the world.
