Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, was arrested in Vancouver, Canada on Dec. 1 and faces a US extradition request, the Canadian Ministry of Justice confirmed to AFP on Wednesday.
"Meng Wanzhou was arrested on 1 December in Vancouver, and the United States is seeking extradition," Ian McLeod, a spokesman for the Justice Department of Canada, said in a statement to AFP confirming the body's information. Globe and Mail that the United States suspected that Meng Wanzhou had violated US-imposed sanctions on Iran.
Wanzhou, daughter of the founder of Huawei, scheduled a hearing for Friday.
US officials have been investigating Huawei since at least 2016, accused of sending goods produced there to Iran, violating Washington's laws and sanctions, sources said. Reuters in April.
