The Health Department acknowledged that its network for collecting blood samples taken in clinical laboratories to confirm the presence of the Zika virus has not yet recovered after Hurricane Maria.
Amid accusations that the government does not process these tests, state epidemiologist Carmen Deseda has indicated that laboratories that are not sending their samples should contact the agency to coordinate the collection of necessary material.
According to reports that the Department of Public Health itself regularly, in 2017 there were 1,641 confirmed cases of zika, of which 1,160 were pregnant women.
However, the last arboviral report of December 7, 2018 has zero confirmed cases of zika, dengue or chikungunya, although there are 445 suspected cases of these three viruses.
