Enel requested longer deadline to file charges on Bocamina


In a public statement, the company Enel Generación Chile, which operates the Bocamina thermoelectric plant in Coronel, informed this afternoon that it has decided to present its resignations to the formulation made by the Superintendence of the Environment (SMA).

"Due to the above, the company requested an extension of the deadline, which was approved by the authority," the company said in the statement.

"Enel Generación Chile implemented a series of environmental improvements at the Bocamina plant, raising its management standard, with sustainability being a central axis of the company's strategic focus," the company said.

During this day SMA reported that it has made accusations against the company for infractions to the environmental norm, in Region of the Biobío.

The projects being questioned are the Expansion of the Bocamina Thermoelectric Plant (Second Unit), environmentally qualified through RCA No. 206/2007; "Expansion of the Bocamina Thermoelectric Power Plant", RCA nº 017/2010; and "Optimization of the Second Bocamina Thermoelectric Plant", RCA No. 128/2015.

The infractions were detected in the operation of two thermoelectric plants, Unit 1 named Thermoelectric Bocamina 1 (CTB1) and Unit 2, Thermoelectric Bocamina 2 (CTB2), for which a Permanent Effluent Quality Monitoring Program was established. , according to DS 90/2000

Based on the environmental control reports, the Superintendency detected six facts that constituted an infraction:

1. CTB1 did not report all the parameters indicated in its monitoring program.

2. CTB1 did not report with the required monitoring frequency.

3. The CTB1 exceeded the maximum level allowed for the parameter Fecal coliform and / or total suspended solids.

4. CTB1 did not report the history associated with the resampling required.

5. CTB2 did not report all of the parameters indicated in its monitoring program.

6. CTB2 did not report as often as required.

These infractions were classified as minor, so that the company could be subject to a written warning or a fine of up to 1,000 Annual Fiscal Units (UTA).

After notifying this formulation of charges, Enel Generación Chile S.A. will have a period of 10 working days to present a Conformity Program (PdC) and 15 working days to formulate their respective resignations.
