Dominican health authorities on alert for rabies cases


December 22, 2018, 10:26Santo Domingo, December 22 (Prensa Latina) Dominican health authorities are on alert today in rabies cases in the border province of Pedernales, where two children have died.

Interviewed by the newspaper Listín Diario, Health Minister Rafael Sánchez said that all necessary measures are taken to prevent more people from being affected and denied that there was a major outbreak in Pedernales.

He explained how active epidemiological surveillance, house-to-house monitoring, vaccination campaigns have been done as long as vaccinations are available and ensured that Public Health follows the established protocol.

At the moment there is a hospitalized child of five years of the mentioned province who was bitten in the left hand by a dog that had only four days had fever, hallucinations, hydrophobia and aerophobia, and therefore was hospitalized.

Last Friday at Reid Cabral, a child under the age of six died of rabies after being bitten by a dog about seven months ago.

With this case, there are three deaths in this country because of this disease.
