Good results have had the two main Chilean retailers in the ranking that measures the 250 largest companies in the sector.
According to Deloitte's Global Powers of Retailing 2019, Cencosud was 61st on the list, three positions above the previous year's edition.
According to the study, in the fiscal year 2017, the last carried out by all the protagonists of this activity, the holding linked to Horst Paulmann recorded revenues of US $ 15,279 million, against US $ 14,525 million the previous year.
Best went to Falabella. The company controlled by the Solari-Del Río family rose from 95 to 90, with revenues of $ 11.143 million, compared to $ 10.288 million in 2016.
But the revenues of these retailers (and any other company in the world) are just grains of sand compared to Walmart. The controller of supermarkets Lider recorded a turnover of nothing more and no less than $ 500 billion, almost double the GDP of Chile.
Walmart was followed by another US company, Costco, which makes almost four times less: $ 129,000.
The podium is completed by Kroger supermarket group, with $ 118.982 million, which is already on the trail of Amazon, with revenue of $ 118,573.
"The world's top ten retailers take a more global approach and operate on average in 13 different countries, in contrast to most of the companies included in the study, which focus on an average of 10 different countries," he says.
More than US $ 4 billion
The auditor noted that large retailers increased their growth rate during fiscal year 2017. This, in spite of the economic and geopolitical turmoil, and the open uncertainty of electronic commerce, the activity of these 250 companies remained on the rise. , the survey highlighted.
Consolidated, Global Powers of Retailing 2019 showed that retail companies earned $ 4.53 billion in 2017, an increase of 5.7% over the previous year.
