The Xbox Games with Gold of January 2019 have been announced, with some recent successes and older classics in the mix for the last batch of free download titles of the Xbox One.
While many of us will be unwrapping new video games on Christmas Day, courtesy of some generous loved ones, getting some more free to download certainly will not hurt.
Remember that if you are a member of Xbox Live Gold, there is still time to download December Games with Gold, with the first person puzzle of Portal QUBE 2 available through December 31 and the atmospheric platform game Never Alone remains free until January 15.
December also saw Microsoft include the title Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction in the Games with Gold line until December 31. The 2005 action adventure title can be played on Xbox One through backward compatibility.
Here is the list of Xbox Live games with Gold for January, with links to the listing of each game on the Xbox site.
Celeste: January 1 to January 31
This challenging pixel art platform game puts you in the shoes of Madeline, who must climb Celeste Mountain. Each short level requires the masterful use of traces in the air and limited wall climbing.
While you can lower the level of challenge thanks to the game's Assist Mode, more hardcore players can unlock even more difficult versions of Celeste's stages. The game received a lot of praise for its well-planned gameplay and engaging story.
World Rally Championship 6: January 16 to February 15
If you want to get your hands dirty with some fast and furious races, the WRC 6 must have a lot to keep you busy with a lot of tracks, licensed vehicles and rallies of the 2016 season.
Lara Croft: Guardian of Light: January 1 to January 15
This spin-off of the Tomb Raider series puts Lara Croft in an isometric arcade action adventure with a few light puzzles. Playable solo or fantastic in two player cooperative mode (both local and online), the game shows Lara joining with the ancient Mayan warrior Totec to defeat the evil spirit Xoloti and his cursed minions.
Far Cry 2: January 16 to January 31
Far Cry 2 took the Ubisoft FPS franchise and reinvented it completely, with new characters and mechanics, as well as adding an open, exploitable world. These changes would form the model for the series, leading to the well-established formula in the recent Far Cry 5.
Playing in a fictional African state, FC2 sees the player tasked with eliminating an arms dealer named Jackal, who sells weapons to both sides of a war between factions that want to take control of the country.
There is a strong dose of realism, with weapons degrading over time, a dynamic climate system and even malaria to tackle, which sees the protagonist having to take medicine at regular intervals in real time in order to combat the symptoms.
How does Xbox Games work with Gold?
As a reward for keeping the Xbox Live Gold subscription, members receive two Gold Free Games per month for download for a limited time on Xbox One and Xbox 360. Titles range from older AAA blockbusters and indie cult hits to understated gems and – very occasionally – a new release.
The two free Xbox 360 games are compatible with Xbox One, which means that owners of the current Microsoft console can effectively win four free games per month.
Games are yours to keep, even if you cancel your Xbox Live Gold subscription after downloading them. Just select the "Gold" tab on your Xbox One or Xbox 360. Alternatively, you can use the Xbox site.
Even if you have not yet upgraded to an Xbox One, you can still win these games for free as long as you have an Xbox Live Gold account. Just go to the Xbox site, go to the title listing page and redeem the offer. The game will appear in the & # 39; Ready to Install & # 39; console if you buy an Xbox One in the future.
