It was a normal trip for the corner shop to buy a "cranberry juice and a candy bar," but for Merritt's George Munro and his wife, Rowena Inyallie, this turned into a life-changing pit stop.
While at the Courtesy Corner Market in Merritt, George bought a Lotto Max ticket and matched all seven numbers in the Lotto Max Draw held Friday, February 22, 2019 to win the $ 25.9 million jackpot.
"This victory comes at a perfect time because I was thinking that there is no way to do my job for another 20 years," George said. "It's very physically demanding. I let the job know that I can stay until I find a replacement. "
Rowena is still in shock. "We had a drink and then we went home and called my mother first," she said. "She dropped the phone."
The newest B.C. billionaires have bought a new Ford F350 and a new Ford Mustang Shelby is on the way. After buying some more toys, the couple plans to clean their home and help friends and family.
Rowena called the "best six dollars we've ever spent."
"Let's have a great barbecue with the family," added George. "We also run a baseball team at home, so I think new shirts are available to everyone."
