If you needed an example of a bulletproof career in Hollywood, Adam McKay might be the guy to point out. Over the years, McKay's series of successes as a writer, director and producer – in many cases all three – would qualify him as the most recessive proof in the film industry.
Here's the other thing: McKay got better with age. While actors in the city can rarely make the same pride, their ability to deliver excellence in film and television behind the scenes ensures it a place near the head of the table in the foreseeable future. (McKay's partnership with long-time collaborator Will Ferrell does not hurt either.)
By some measures, you could say that McKay has reached a high point with The Big Short in 2015. The following year, he received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and continued on the move. But he may have an even bigger 2019 ahead. See here the McKay projects and their estimated (and still growing) heritage.
In SNL for Talladega Nights, Successionand Addiction
When McKay hoped to join Saturday night live in the mid-1990s, he planned to become a member of the cast. At that time, his training was in comedy and improvisation. However, he ended up getting a job as a writer, and it was the same day that Ferrell joined the cast. In 1997, he worked until the lead writer SNL.
In 2004, McKay made his film debut with Anchor: The Legend of Ron Burgundy with Ferrell, then a close friend of his time in SNL. Two years later, Ferrell and McKay formed Gary Sanchez Productions and made an incredible film production that continues to this day.
Talladega, Eastbound & Down Nights, The other guys, Dad's house, Succession, The Big Short all came from Gary Sanchez's store, with McKay writing and directing them all. (In the case of HBO shows, he served as producer, screenwriter, and director on several episodes, but not at all.) Drunk history and the Funny or die they were there too.
These days, with an Oscar scriptwriter and $ 133 million in gross receipts The Big Short (with a budget of $ 28 million), you could imagine that McKay could do what he wanted next. The movie he made – Vice, starring Christian Bale and Sam Rockwell – opens Christmas Day. He has already received a bunch of nominations for the award, including two (writing and directing) for McKay.
Estimated net worth of US $ 40-60 million
In 2013, Celebrity New Worth estimated McKay's fortune at $ 40 million. Looking at that moment – and you can because the number has never been updated – it's easy to feel like a character from Back to the future. The writer could not know what successes such as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (US $ 226 million), Stay sharp (US $ 111 million), Dad's house (US $ 243 million) and The Big Short were just around the corner.
Looking only to write credits, McKay's movies grossed about $ 1.4 billion. You can add another $ 1 billion to the photos he has produced. Did we mention that McKay also acts? He also has 15 credits in this column, although he last appeared in the film as Dirty Mike in The other guys.
In short, if someone told us that McKay's net worth was over $ 60 million, we would have to believe them. For now, this high reach of the estimate will have to be made.
