Two men died after a shootout in the St. Leonard neighborhood on Monday.
A call to 911 was received at 11:40 a.m., about a firefight in an apartment building on Jean-Talon Blvd. E. near St. Catherine, said Montreal police spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils.
When police arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds.
A 38-year-old man died at the scene; the other, 41, was transported to a hospital with critical lesions in the upper body. He died Monday afternoon.
Both men were known to the police.
According to police, the shootings occurred after a conflict between several people degenerated.
The suspects fled on foot in an indeterminate direction.
A 25-year-old woman inside the apartment was not injured, but was transported to a hospital in a state of nervous shock.
A perimeter was set up by the police as crime scene technicians and homicide investigators attempted to understand the circumstances of the event. On Monday evening, Jean-Talon between De la Villanelle and St. Valdombre was still closed.
The shootings were the 31 and 32 murders of Montreal in 2018.
The 30th murder in Montreal on December 20 also took place in St-Léonard. Sébastien Beauchamp, a 44-year-old man with links to the Hells Angels, died of gunshot wounds that night after being shot outside a gas station on Langelier Blvd. earlier in the day, police said.
There were 24 homicides in Montreal in 2017.
