A Canadian Pacific Railway train derailed west of Banff on Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Council of Canada (TSB) confirmed to CBC News.
It happened near Mile 87, in the subdivision of Laggan, west of the city, said Chris Krepski.
Twenty wagons left the runway, he said, 10 empty car carriers and 10 grain loaded wagons.
Krepski says the council is investigating, but dangerous products are not a factor.
The CP said in a statement on Thursday that its investigators are on their way to the site.
"There were no injuries and there were no public safety concerns." The CP immediately sent teams to the scene, the cause of the incident being under investigation, "said spokesman Salem Woodrow.
