CAMBRIDGE, Ont. – The provincial police said an accident involving a tanker truck carrying jet fuel forced the closing of Highway 401 in both directions near Cambridge, Ont.
Const. Robert Visconti says the truck was carrying 50,000 liters of highly flammable fuel when it rolled early in the morning after colliding with another vehicle on the eastern slopes.
He says the accident happened just before 2 am and that the fuel has spread along the east and west lanes of the highway.
Visconti says the highway is closed between Highway 6 South and Townline Road.
He says cleaning will take most of the day and the road will not reopen until Sunday afternoon.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries in the accident.
