CALGARY – Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares, defense of the Ottawa Senators Thomas Chabot and the wing of Golden Golden Knight Mark Stone highlights Canada's roster for the 2019 World Hockey Championship.
Hockey Canada released the list of 22 players on Monday.
Tavares set a high career with 47 goals and added 41 assists to the Maple Leafs this season while Stone had 33 goals and 40 regular season assists with Ottawa and Vegas and added 12 points in the first round of seven Golden Knights playoff loss playoff to San Jose.
They will be tasked to provide much of the offense to an advanced group that has a lot of experience in the NHL but does not have star power, although Philadelphia center Sean Couturier, who had 33 points and 43 assists for the Flyers this season, gives the Canada a capacity – two punches in the center with Tavares.
Chabot is coming off a second-year season with senators who have seen him put 14 goals and 41 assists. Defense of Vegas Shea Theodore and Edmonton Rear The Darnell nurse must provide additional offensive support to the blue line.
Pittsburgh goalkeeper Matt Murray, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, is likely to lead Canada's contingent of goalkeepers. Carter Hart, emerging from an impressive new campaign with the Philadelphia Flyers, and Mackenzie Blackwood of New Jersey, are the smart ones.
