Stamkos gets hat trick, 700 NHL point to help Rangers Lightning top


TAMPA – Steven Stamkos scored a hat trick and overcame 700 points in the NHL to lift Tampa Bay Lightning and beat New York Rangers 6/3 at the Amalie Arena on Monday.

Anthony Cirelli marked twice and Ryan McDonagh scored for Lightning (24-7-1), who won their seventh consecutive game of the season, the longest active time in the NHL. Louie Domingue made 23 saves.

Kevin Hayes scored twice for the Rangers (14-13-3), who are 2-5-1 in their last eight games. Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves.

Stamkos has 701 points (363 goals, 338 assists) in 696 NHL matches. This was his ninth NHL hat-trick and the first since October 13, 2014 against the Montreal Canadiens.

He tied the game in 1 to 1 with a power goal at the top of the left face-to-face circle at 14:09 of the first period. Stamkos' second goal came from the same place in another power match to tie 2-2 at 6:19 of the second period.

He finished the hat trick at 10:41 of the third period with a one-timer who went through Lundqvist to make 5-2.

Hayes gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 12:19 in the first quarter and made it 2-1 at 15:07.

McDonagh put the Lightning ahead by 3-2 at 12:42 of the second period.

Cirelli made 4-2 at 10:17 of the third after stealing the Rangers defender's record. Fredrik Claesson in the offensive zone and scoring in the backhand.

Jesper Fast made 5-3 at 5:34 p.m. of the third period.

Cirelli scored an empty goal with 39 seconds remaining to make the 6-3.

The last series of victories of the Lightning in the seven games was of 2 to 16 of December of 2016.
