Six-year-old girl, seduced from the playground and sexually assaulted, the police say

Police are looking for tips after a six-year-old girl was allegedly drawn from her school and sexually assaulted in South Vancouver last week.

Investigators said a stranger had persuaded the girl to leave the playground at Sexsmith Elementary School on Columbia Street and West 59 Avenue on December 5.

A statement said he took the girl to a nearby location, sexually assaulted her, and then took her back to school.

The suspect is described as having about 30 years with "darker" skin and brown or gray hair. Police said he was wearing gray pants.

Detectives of the police department's sex offender unit are looking for dashcam images of anyone who has been in the area between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. PT on 5 December.

Specifically, researchers are looking for pictures of people driving in an area bounded by West 58th Avenue, West 60th Avenue, Ontario Street and Cambie Street, south of the Langara Golf Course.

Anyone who was in the area last Wednesday afternoon and saw anything suspicious is called to call detectives at the VPD Sexual Crimes Unit at 604-717-0603 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
