Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar to replace KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya by series Australia, New Zealand

The All India Senior Selection Committee has decided to send the versatile Vijay Shankar and the batter Shubman Gill as substitutes for the suspended cricket players Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.

Vijay Shankar will join the team before the start of the 2nd ODI in Adelaide. He will be part of the cast of the ODI series in Australia and the tour in New Zealand. Shubman Gill was chosen for the ODI and T20I series in New Zealand.

KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya are scheduled to return from Australia after suspending an inquiry into their sexist comments on a TV show. The pair were ruled out of the ODI series of three games against Australia.

This is the first time that Gill, 19, is included in India's limited selection. He had an impressive first-class season, where he accumulated over 1000 races in 9 starts. He had equally excellent Ranji Trophy, where he beat 790 runs in 10 innings in a Bradmanseque average of 98.75

Shubman Gill sets sights on debut in India in 2019

Earlier in the week, Gill had spoken with The Indian Express and revealed its 2019 goal. "2018 was a good year for me with a lot of new things to learn and what I'm looking for in 2019 is playing for India. That's the main goal for me, "Gill said.

Vijay Shankar, on the other hand, was part of the Indian cast at the Nidhas Trophy last year. He had a brilliant tour on the recent completion tour of India A to New Zealand. The 27-year-old cricketer is a middle-ranking batter from Tamil Nadu who also manages to reach the average pace. He represented India in five T20Is.
