PHILADELPHIA – A patient is being tested for Ebola at a hospital in Philadelphia, although authorities do not believe the patient has the potentially deadly disease.
Penn Medicine says preliminary tests at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital indicate that the person has another condition. They did not disclose the patient's name.
Authorities say the test is being "very carefully" because the patient has met the screening criteria for ebola. They say it is unknown whether the patient traveled to a place that has the disease or came in contact with someone who has it.
An outbreak of Ebola was reported just over six months ago in the eastern part of Congo. It is the tenth outbreak in that African country and the second largest in the world.
WPVI-TV in Philadelphia was the first to report that the patient was being tested.
